This paper presents the work on the control of a hybrid, gas turbine driven, vehicle power train, that is currently under development at Imperial College as part of the TETLEI project, under the auspices of the BRITE/EURAM initiative. The concept clearly separates management functions of different subsystems, each being performed by a dedicated micro-controller. Engine management provides constant-speed operation of the engine, thus eliminating time lags in the delivery of power and prolonging the fatigue life of the rotational components. Safety considerations make special demands on the integrity and reliability of the sensory feedback, and this has been a special feature of the control hardware design.
