The effect of simulated seawater exposure on the burst strength and creep strength of glass/epoxy filament wound composite tubes has been examined using hydraulic burst and creep tests. The absorption of simulated seawater has a degrading effect on the burst strength of the tube aged in simulated seawater. Strain gauge and acoustic emission techniqus were used to characterize burst properties. The acoustic emission characteristic is different for the aged tube. In the creep test, times to rupture of tubes tested in air and tested in simulated seawater immersion were recorded and compared. The structure of the filament wound tube has a significant effect on creep properties.
