This paper presents the SIM-D simulation environment as a tool capable of analyzing flexible space structures with many varied sub-systems, including, but not limited to, attitude control systems, manipulator joint controllers, docking mechanisms, etc., all in the presence of contact forces generated in docking or berthing operations. The overall objective of this paper is to show, using an applicable, complex example, the varied, systems level analysis capabilities SIM-D has for modeling flexible space structures.
