Road noise and ride vibration are becoming more important in the chassis design and development. In the NVH characteristics, lower frequency interior noise and ride vibration have close correlations. Although the frequency range of road noise is different from the ride vibration, road/tire/suspension induced noise and vibration transmission paths in a vehicle have similar trends. Therefore the sensitivity analysis of chassis components to road noise and ride vibration is necessary to improve road noise and ride vibration simultaneously. In this paper, a methodology is proposed to reduce interior noise and ride vibration sensitivity to wheel excitation forces. The sensitivity analysis of a suspension system is carried out through the computer simulation and the experimental approach. Various road profiles, vehicle speeds, interior acoustic cavity vibration modes in a car, and handling performances are also considered for the reduction of road noise and ride vibration.
