Future intelligent restraint systems will need detailed information about car seat occupancy, such as size, position, corpulence, etc. I.E.E. (International Electronics & Engineering) is developing a classification system based on the analysis of the seat occupancy pressure profile. The classification system discerns human like from human unlike profiles. If the occupancy has been identified as a person, an allocation into one of up to four morphologic ranges is performed. In that way, children, light adults, heavy children, medium adults, and heavy adults can be discerned.
