Logging while drilling (LWD) and wireline measurement are studied with emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of time-lapse sonic logging. The LWD and wireline sonic logs show good agreement in the interbedded sand-shale sequences. However, there are zones where the two measurements are different and this is attributed to formation alteration. The thickness and properties of the altered zone also progressively change over time. A sonic LWD tool with a long transmitter-to-receiver spacing provides better opportunities to log the formation.
