This paper explores the relationship between work and the weekday travel behavior of workers. Commuting trips and business trips are taken into account. Data are from the 1983 and 2001 Travel Survey of the Paris Region. Results show significant differences between working days, when work trips dominate, and nonworking days, when nonwork trips are by far more numerous and more diversified. Moreover, travel behavior differs on workdays regardless of whether a worker makes business trips. This research highlights differences in travel behavior by gender and by professional status by taking into account business trips and by distinguishing between working and nonworking days. The main changes in travel behavior that have occurred from 1983 to 2001 are highlighted.
