This research presents an agent-based method to simulate the day-today bus service process and effectively capture the perception and cognition of passengers under various operational and information conditions. Two indicators, the perceived waiting time and the reliability index, were developed to measure transit service reliability on the basis of the simulation results. Case studies revealed the promising properties of the proposed method for use in measuring transit service reliability from the perspective of passengers. The proposed method was also shown to outperform most traditional models in reflecting passengers’ perception as well as their responses to transit services under information conditions.
