In the modern automotive development process, advanced driver assistance systems have taken on a decisive role. Similar to mechanical subsystems, driver assistance functions are developed and improved as the project progresses. The inclu-sion of assistance systems is currently tied to regulatory requirements. For steering systems, one requirement is the im-plementation of Hands-On detection functionality for SAE Level Two systems. Such detection systems must be developed and evaluated before the assistance system is fully completed, which complicates its validation. This paper presents a method for developing and improving a Hands-On detection function on a steering system test bench instead of vehicle testing. For this purpose, it is shown that relevant vehicle measurements can be transferred to a steering test bench. This additionally includes the identification of subjective-objective correlations, which are required for function evaluation. A purely objective approach to investigating Hands-On detection on a steering system test bench concludes the paper.
