In this chapter, an attempt has been made to study the heterogeneous traffic on the road to evaluate the existing capacity at which the urban road is running and then to establish the revised level of service criteria based on the existing road capacity. Videography of the traffic volume is done using the camera mounted at the midblock of each of the four sections. The reference line technique used for the study is the space mean speed (Vs) of the vehicles. The number of vehicles, travel time, average travel time, average speed of the flow, flow rate, and density for 5‐min intervals in peak and off‐peak hours for four sections are used to develop the speed‐flow relationship and speed‐density relationship. After plotting the speed‐flow relationship, the maximum flow rate obtained at each section is considered as the capacity of the road section and then the volume‐to‐capacity ratio (v/c) is determined for each of the sections and graphs between speed vs. v/c are plotted. The revised v/c ratios and speed ranges for each of the sections are suggested based on the analysis.
