Some space missions include a reentry phase, which may end at sea or on land, vertically or horizontally. The goal of the reentry is to dissipate the initial kinetic energy by atmospheric braking in order to safely recover the spacecraft on the ground. The aerodynamic capabilities of the vehicle make it possible to control the rate of descent so as to regulate the thermal and mechanical loads and keep them compatible with the vehicle's structural design. These constraints are closely linked to the initial conditions, which are controlled by the deorbitation maneuver preceding the atmosphere entry. Simplified analytical models adapted to the successive trajectory phases allows to easily define the reentry scenario during preliminary design studies.
