Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transportation plays a vital role in addressing challenges such as traffic congestion, safety, and sustainability. The integration of AI and smart transportation brings about various advantages such as route optimization, decision‐making, reducing congestion, and accessibility. Even though it has numerous advantages, AI smart transportation has ethical implications and equitable outcomes. This chapter takes a look at AI transportation and ethics in smart transportation, discussing and observing the key dimensions such as safety, fairness, privacy, transparency, and environmental impact. This literature review and case studies consider the ethical considerations inherent in autonomous vehicles, route optimization, route prediction, vehicle‐to‐vehicle (V2V) communication, traffic signal management, and data confidentiality and security measures. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities accompanying ethical deployment of AI transportation and how to improve the performance of mobility, safety, and sustainability in the future directions. Finally, the research emphasizes incorporating the ethical values of AI‐driven transportation system to promote trust, social responsibility, and accountability.
