Paratransit places are structuring element of the economic sector, urban life and the growth of metropolitan areas. In most cities of the Global South, the transportation provision is largely reliant on private operators, which offer services on one‐size‐fits‐all networks or according to on‐demand transportation operation, with a wide variety of modes of operation. For city dwellers, transportation places represent veritable urban resources: as places of centrality, they catalyze activities and see the weaving of social ties. Transportation and trade remain closely linked activities, and stations and stops are privileged places for merchants to set up. Urban space hybridization can be grasped in three ways: by urban production that proceeds by “institutional bricolage“, by the implementation of hybrid transportation services combining paratransit and other transportation modes and, in recent years, by the role of digital tools, which renew the in‐between function of paratransit places.
