On Chicago, Burlington and Quincy's 238-mi line which ordinarily has 9 to 15 trains daily, first cost of centralized traffic control was reduced by installing power switch and controlled signals at only one end of each siding, with spring switch at other end, rather than following conventional practice of power switch at both ends.
