British Railways are building 50 four-coach sets at Derby works, that will be used to form trains of four, eight or twelve coaches; 25-kv a-c power equipments supplied by English Electric Co Ltd provide balancing speed on level, tangent track of 68 mph (maximum service speed 75 mph); each unit consists of battery driving trailer, motor coach, nondriving trailer, and driving trailer.
