Simple caternary equipment; model studies of overhead equipment for railroad electrification at 25-kv a-c were initiated because of shortage of accurate performance data, owing to difficulties of conducting full-scale or theoretical investigations; model technique has been applied to simple catenary equipment, in order to identify exact mechanism of breakdown of current collection; suitable instrumentation for purpose was developed, comprising primarily photographic method of recording pantograph movements; results provide standard of comparison for future attempts to improve performance of simple overhead equipment.
