Flettner rudder offers minimum resistance and operates on principle radically different from rudders of previous design; principle, making it possible to steer large vessels with very small amount of power, consists in steering ordinary rudder requiring for its operation steering engine of considerable capacity, by another and smaller one which bears to some degree same relation to large rudder as latter does to ship.
