Four major trends in electronics industry are toward solving basic problems of technological advance, miniaturization, reliability, and competition; pocket radio, color TV, digital computer, and missile guidance system are examples of need for component miniaturization; effect of trends on manufacturing operation are examined in terms of economics and technical feasibility, and from viewpoints of basic philosophies applied to cope with manufacturing requirements; review of needs of equipment developer and areas in which mechanization of electronics may be developed.
