The present invention relates to an electromechanical power-assisted steering system for a motor vehicle, having a servo-motor (1) and a ball screw (2), wherein the ball screw (2) has a belt pulley (3), a ball nut (4) and a threaded spindle (5), wherein the belt pulley (3) is arranged concentrically with respect to the ball nut (4) and surrounds the latter, wherein the ball nut (4) is in engagement with the threaded spindle (5), wherein the belt pulley (3) is driveable by the servo-motor (1) via a drive belt (6), wherein a first half of the inner circumference of the belt pulley (3) has two radially inwardly extending protrusions (7, 8) which are connected in a form-fitting manner to the ball nut (4) in the circumferential direction, wherein a second half of the inner circumference of the belt pulley (3) has a third protrusion (9) which extends inwards in the radial direction and via which the belt pulley (3) is supported on the outer circumference (10) of the ball nut (4). In order to develop such an electromechanical power-assisted steering system in such a manner that, firstly, a large amount of structural freedom is provided with regard to the configuration of the components of the ball screw, and that, secondly, the push-through force, i.e. the force which is required to move the rack, has a force-travel profile having a small ripple without large force peaks, with there being as little vibration and noise production as possible, it is proposed that the inner circumference (11) of the belt pulley (3) on either side of the third protrusion (9) has compensating material (12a, 12b) by means of which an imbalance of the ball screw (2) is compensated for.
