Including the main factors of people, vehicles and roads, The urban expressway transportation system has many characteristics, such as multi-subject, without uniform organization and self-organization. Also the transportation system has complex and fast-changing disturbance factors. Only by exploring and addressing the regulation of the transportation with the adequate technical means, will it be possible to organize and optimize the existing system, so as to building the harmonious transportation system. Efficient traffic management should be secured by the full and reasonable supporting information. The information of traffic flow attribute, status and characteristic is the basis of the traffic flow optimization methods of the urban road network. Based on the information granules theory, this paper constructs three information granules for traffic flow with basic set and rough set, that is, traffic flow information attribute granules, traffic flow status Information granules and traffic flow characteristic information granules. Then the traffic operation characteristics and regulation on the urban road network are analized with the above granules. Finally this paper proposes three kinds of traffic flow optimization methods with the fuzzy control and other related theories.
