Operating under contract to U S Navy Bureau of Ordnance, Penn State's Garfield Thomas Water Tunnel will provide accurate facilities for testing large scale model marine propellers, submarines, torpedoes, and other types of marine equipment; 95-in., 4-blade, variable pitch propeller is powered by 2000-hp, 195-rpm, 2300-v wound rotor motor, utilizing modified Kraemer type of speed control; control holds speed to within 1/4%.
