The invention relates to the technical field of AMRs, in particular to a steering wheel driven heavy load AMR with a buffering function and a method. The floating buffering assembly is arranged on one side of the vehicle body base and comprises a floating support and buffering assemblies arranged at the two ends of the floating support; the middle of the floating support is rotationally connected with the vehicle body base through a connecting shaft, the two ends of the floating support are connected with the vehicle body base through buffering combinations, each buffering combination is composed of a disc spring and buffering supports, and the buffering supports are fixed to the two ends of the floating support. The four wheels are symmetrically arranged, two wheels are fixed on the vehicle body base, the other two wheels are fixed on the buffer bracket, and the top end of the buffer bracket is connected with the vehicle body base through the disc spring; by arranging the floating buffering assembly, vibration caused by uneven ground or impact in the running process of the AMR in the moving process can be absorbed and reduced, the stability of a vehicle body and the running smoothness are kept, and the AMR vehicle body and goods are protected against damage. In addition, the running track deviation caused by the irregular ground can be reduced, and the running precision is improved.
