A method for offloading cargo fluid from a container in an underwater vehicle comprises displacing cargo fluid from the container with a backfill liquid at a first pressure 802, depressurising the backfill liquid to a second pressure 804, where the second pressure is lower than the first pressure and discharging at least part of the backfill liquid from the container 806. The at least part of the backfill liquid discharged from the container may be less than or equal to the volume of cargo fluid in the container before offloading multiplied by one minus the ratio between the density of the cargo fluid and he density of the backfill liquid. Discharging the volume of backfill liquid from the container may thus reduce the net buoyancy change after offloading.
