Today is that period in time where there has been a rapid advancement in the speed and effectiveness of the internet and communication technologies which has now made it seamlessly more convenient compared to the past. Through channels such as computers, mobile devices and various other devices, communication technologies have become prevalent. Roadside devices and vehicles integration can come to serve a vital role in the intelligent transit system. The vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) will become an important and the most preferred type of mobile ad-hoc networks in the coming years. The main purpose is to make communication between vehicles and roadside elements wireless. During the course of this paper, various routing algorithms for VANET will be compared. For the simulation of VANET, two kinds of simulations are necessary; the network and traffic simulations. This work makes use of SUMO for traffic mobility production, and for analyzing the efficiency of the routing, protocol NS-3 is made use of. The main purpose of this paper was to figure out which routing algorithm will be the most favorable in the greatly mobile atmosphere of VANET and propose improvements for the protocols in use.
