This study, conducted by Frederick R. Harris, Inc. for Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Santa Marta (SPSM) examined the feasibility of expansion of the cargo handling facilities at the Port of Santa Marta and provide an assessment of the modernization and phased development of the port, including expanding and modernizing Berths 2 and 3 at the port to provide a post-Panamax berth or two smaller berths, subsequent expansion to provide additional berthing capacity, and additional container yards and intermodal container transfer facilities. The study includes a commodity forecast and demand analysis, operations planning, preliminary engineering, project phasing and optimization strategies, an environmental analysis, and financial analysis and funding requirements. The value of potential U.S. exports for this project is $18 million and includes parts of the wharf structure, land development, electrical equipment and systems, container Cranes, RTG's, Top Loaders, Reach Loaders, Lift Trucks, Mobile Yard Cranes, Yard Tractors and Trailers, Buildings, and Electronic Systems.
