The report presents the results of Phase I of a program being undertaken by the City of Los Angeles through its Department of Airports to plan for a new high-speed ground access system between Los Angeles International Airport and the San Fernando Valley. The system under study would employ tracked air cushioned vehicles powered by linear induction motors. This phase of the study includes route analysis, development of terminal concepts, preliminary engineering on alignment and profile to develop compatibility with both current use and proposed expansion of the San Diego Freeway, an identification of the operating subsystems and statements by the California Division of Highways on the effect that the proposed high speed ground transportation facility might have on San Diego Freeway traffic.
