A comparative study was conducted to investigate the performance and cost benefits of future engine concepts for subsonic strategic cruise missile propulsion. Technology advancements were projected for component efficiencies, materials and bearing lubrication. Engine configurations studied were an advanced simple cycle (conventional) turbofan and a recuperated turbofan. Results showed the two engines require virtually the same size missile to fly the designated mission. However, there was lower life cycle cost for the advanced simple cycle turbofan engine.
