Abstract The environment pollution prevention is one of the essential concerns to assure a sustainable maritime industry. Our contribution consists of the study of the environmental impact of conventional ships (CS) such as, general cargoes, bulk carriers , and containers on sea, and air. Ships documents and reports were analyzed to identify and quantify the impact of fuel oil residues, greenhouse gases, garbage, sewage and ballasting operation in order to propose an environmental friendly alternatives.
