For pt.IV see ibid., vol.AES-22, no.3, p.246 (1986). Propagation experiments conducted at six locations in Japan, using the 19.45 GHz circularly polarized beacon of the Sakura communications satellite, are described. Elevation angles at the Earth stations were from 37-53 deg. Attenuation and depolarization due to rain and ice crystals were measured and compared with predicted values. Site diversity improvement was also investigated. The measured values are in good agreement with the predicted values. A simple model for predicting distributions of duration and rate of rain attenuation is proposed and compared with the measured values.
