By definition of standardized requirements in terms of topology, electrical functions, interfaces, voltage and power classes, a high potential for OEM-wide implementation of standardized parts in electric vehicles is opened. This will allow realization of higher part counts and thus improve the cost structure of power electronic components for electric cars. The paper will give some examples of currently available hybrid and electric vehicles, deal with the challenges of bringing power electronics into existing cars, and give a potential scenario for standardized components.
