Across the world, Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C‐ITS) are being deployed. Soon, not just vehicles, but also bicycles, pedestrians, buses and all mobile equipment will be compatible with C‐ITSs. This chapter proposes a new approach, called Geographical Vehicular Central Data Networking (GeoVCDN), aimed at both reducing bandwidth occupancy and increasing network freshness; it builds on the paradigm of information‐centric networks (ICN) in a cloud environment. It exploits standardized application beacons and geographic routing natively used by C‐ITSs. REndez‐vous NEtwork (RENE) and Named Data Networking (NDN) are two well‐known ICN‐based methods. The chapter compares them to the performance of GeoVCDN by first proposing a probabilistic model that evaluates the network freshness and network load of each method in a given environment and then comparing them in a simulator.
