The invention provides a robot and a transverse moving method.The robot comprises a main body, mechanical legs are arranged on the two sides of the upper portion and the two sides of the lower portion of the main body correspondingly, each mechanical leg comprises a supporting arm, a suction cup foot and an ankle unit, and each ankle unit comprises an aligning block, a first base and a second base; the return block is provided with a first rotating assembly, a second rotating assembly, a first reset mechanism and a second reset mechanism, the supporting arm is connected with the first rotating assembly through the first base, and the suction cup foot is connected with the second rotating assembly through the second base; the first reset mechanism is connected with the first rotating assembly, the second reset mechanism is connected with the second rotating assembly, and when the sucker foot is subjected to eccentric external force, the sucker foot can rotate around a rotating shaft of the first rotating assembly and/or rotate around a rotating shaft of the second rotating assembly. The suction cup feet of the robot can rotate in a self-adaptive mode, the angles in the two directions can be adjusted, and stable and reliable suction on a non-planar complex surface can be achieved.
