To provide a method for controlling an electric vehicle and a device for controlling an electric vehicle which execute battery temperature control in just proportion according to vehicle travel resistance, and can reduce frequency of battery output limitation at a time of a high load.SOLUTION: A method for controlling an electric vehicle cools a battery by cooling means before a vehicle 100 enters an uphill road, when it is predicted that the temperature of a battery 1 reaches an upper limit temperature (Tmax) while the vehicle 100 travels on the uphill road, heats the battery 1 by heating means before the vehicle 100 enters the uphill road when it is predicted that the temperature of the battery 1 becomes lower than a prescribed temperature (second target battery temperature (Tbat4)) when the vehicle 100 enters the uphill road, gradually classifies required drive force on the uphill road according to the magnitude of the required drive force, and gradually sets the total amount of the output of the cooling means and the output of the heating means, on the basis of the classification of the required drive force.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
