The invention discloses an inspection robot capable of crossing obstacles. The robot is at least composed of a machine body, two sets of driving devices, two sets of machine arms connected with the driving devices and a machine tail supporting rod. The mechanical arm employs a planetary gear type structure composed of an outer side gear, a transmission gear set and a driven gear and can rotate around the robot body by 360 degrees to drive the robot body to lift, so that the obstacle crossing action of the robot is achieved; and the robot has the advantages of being easy to control, simplifiedin mechanism, light in weight and convenient to maintain. The invention further provides a robot obstacle crossing method.
