Method of determining the 3D coordinate of a destination (first location) from sensor on the vehicle (may be an eye tracker 520 in the cabin of the vehicle), receiving LIDAR point cloud data 525 of the environment surrounding the vehicle from a LIDAR sensor, overlaying a visual indication 530 of the destination on a user interface UI 540 on the LIDAR point cloud, and in response to the user selecting the visual indication, navigating the vehicle to the destination. The selection may be made by the user by touching or a gesture to the UI 540 or from the eye tracker 520. Map data 550 may further indicate safe locations (second locations) for picking up or dropping off further occupants. A planning system 404 may generate trajectory towards the destination.
