A failure protection system (305) functions such that, in the event of a failure of the drive device (302), the steering unit (301) is neither blocked nor can it be moved without resistance. The failure protection system (305) comprises a braking device (1) that is independent of the drive device (302), with a maximum braking torque that is less than a maximum torque of the drive device (302). The failure protection system (305) is designed and suited to actuate the braking device (1) in the event of a failure of the drive device (302), and to thereby brake the movement of the steering unit (301) with a targeted braking torque, i.e. failure braking torque.
